Special Programs
C. L. Smith has a variety of Support and Enrichment Programs for our students including:
Student Academic Support Programs
- Title I Program - We offer both reading and mathematics small group classes for students needing extra support in these subjects.
- Reading Recovery - Selected 1st grade students are provided one-on-one daily instruction in reading to support their learning.
- Reading Aides in each classroom to lower the ratio between students and adults
- AVID Tutoring - study skills and homework assistancefor selected students
- English classes for students learning English as a second language from our full time ELD teacher
- A variety of Special Education opportunities including Speech/Language, Resource and Special Day Class Programs for students with special needs
Student Wellness Programs
- We have a counseling program for students and families which includes our half-time counselor, Heather Senecal and child aide, Bev Ryzcek. Students are seen in groups or individually to support their success at school.
- Before and after school childcare is offered through the Parks and Recreation Department. For more information call 781-7300.
- Breakfast and lunch are offered each day. Free and reduced price meals are available for families who qualify.
- Students are involved in a variety of responsibilities including Student Council, Worm Guides, Reading Buddies and Peace Patrol.
- Monthly Superstar Assemblies recognize students for academic and social success.
- Positive referral to the Principal, Honor Society, and Caught Ya Being a Superstar tickets are just a few ways students are recognized for their good choices and successes.
