About Our School

Mission Statement

C. L. Smith is a school in which parents, staff, and community share a commitment to academic excellence in a caring, safe environment where the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of its students and staff are nurtured; and, where children are prepared to become productive, responsible citizens and lifelong learners.

Vision Statement, 2007- 2008

C. L. Smith Elementary School will continue to be an outstanding academically-centered school where instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Science, Science, Visual and Performing Arts and Physical Education is based on the California State Standards. The school will help all students meet state standard expectations and realize their individual academic, physical, and social potential through a well-balanced program.

  • Climate - All students, staff, parents, and the broader community will experience a healthy, safe, secure, and supportive learning and working environment. Our school will demonstrate cohesiveness in propose with mutual support, and respect. Cultural diversity will be celebrated, while the unique abilities of each student are nurtured.
  • Delivery Models - The school will research, embrace, and collaborate to provide innovative and effective delivery models for exemplary performance in every classroom and enrich student-learning experiences. These models will utilize best practices and also include objective evaluation criteria with ongoing assessments.
  • Technology - Our technology use will be driven by educational needs, be accessible to all, and provide additional access to standards-based resources. It will support our students in their diverse educational needs and provide them with the skills required to become proficient in the use of technology.
  • Community - Our school community will collaborate with families, neighbors, business, agencies, and organizations. We will look for opportunities to share our school program, engage the ideas and interest of others, and encourage involvement.
  • Finance - The school budget will reflect the goals and objectives of our school improvement plan. New funding sources will be sought including grants, partnerships with business, and other potential sources of revenue. These external sources of funding will help support existing, new, and innovative programs, as well as ever-growing technology needs.
